Modern Registered Manager's Journal

The journal was launched in Sept 2008 with a production of sample copies which were issued to managers and organisations. The response was positive and managers felt this was a positive step forward in addressing key issues affecting them as the journal reflected the professionalism and expertise of registered managers in the care sector.

Two copies of the Sept/Oct issue were produced, a sample copy and a final copy (only available to those who subscribe to the journal). Today three journals have been produced each focusing on key aspects and challenges faced by managers in the care sector.

Sept/Oct 2008 Volume 1 No 1

Nov/Dec 2008 Volume 1 No 2

The purpose of the new journal is to focus on issues affecting registered managers, deputy managers and anyone working at Level 4 involved in leadership and management such as team leaders within care homes. Managers, deputy managers and team leaders within domiciliary care settings can also benefit from the journal. This is a professional and semi academic journal which highlights the need to promote and maintain evidence based practice within the care sector with managers as the key individuals in achieving this.

The journal is inspired by ‘registered managers for registered managers’, therefore the need to ensure articles submitted reflect their current needs is of great importance. Managers, deputy managers and team leaders are encouraged to submit articles focusing on their experiences and challenges in relation to leading and managing the care sector.

Each article submitted will be linked to Leadership and Management for Care courses and NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care to ensure that care provided by managers continuously encourages and reflects the ability to implement theory into practice. Registered managers, deputy managers and team leaders can undertake leadership and management courses, but for them to make a difference within care homes requires them to ensure they develop the ability to critically evaluate care given and current systems in place. Therefore, this journal will be central in challenging existing practices, thus enabling managers to inspire, transform, lead and manage the care sector.

The journal will future 6 issues per year and will be published in Jan/Feb, March/April, May/June, July/August, Sept/Oct, Nov/Dec.

Each issue will future a section on the following:

  • Leadership and Management- will focus on key evidence based practice which will enable managers to identify leadership and management issues affecting them and how to overcome this.
